Mr.Heater's Home Page

Welcome to my home page.  I've been teaching in South Haven since 2012 .  I teach K-12 P.E. , Health, and Weight Training and coach high school girls basketball.

I grew up and graduated from Belle Plaine.  I earned a B.S. in Physical Education and Health from Emporia State University.

I earned a M.S. in Sports Studies from Bemidji State University in northern Minnesota.  While at BSU I also taught college level courses and was an assistant basketball coach for the women's basketball team.   I met my wife Rheann while at BSU.

My wife and I have four children: Addison, Brody, Carlee, and Della.

The Mile Run

Recently students in grades 3rd - 8th completed a mile run pre-test. The purpose of the mile run test is to measure aerobic capacity.  Research indicates that acceptable levels of aerobic capacity are associated with a reduced risk of high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, obesity, diabetes, some forms of cancer, and other health problems in adults.

The attached one-mile run FITNESSGRAM® Healthy Fitness Zones represent minimum levels of fitness that offer protection against the diseases that result from sedentary living.

One goal of our physical education program is get all students within the acceptable healthy fitness range for their age. I encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of being physically fit and provide them opportunities to be active at home.   In physical education class we will be working on improving aerobic fitness over the next couple of weeks and will hopefully show growth on the next mile run test.
