Brittany Byers, Cooper Wolf, and Rachel Turek Are All-State in Basketball

Congratulations to Brittany Byers, Cooper Wolf, and Rachel Turek for being recognized as some of the best basketball players in Kansas. Brittany was named to the Sports in Kansas 1A First Team and the Wichita Eagle 1A Honorable Mention Team. Cooper Wolf was named to the Sports in Kansas 1A 2nd Team, and Rachel Turek was named to the Sports in Kansas 1A Honorable Mention Team. Congratulations on a great season Cardinals. It was fun watching you!

Cooper Wolf Hits the 1000 point Mark in his Basketball career

Friday, February 7, was a special day in Cooper Wolf's life. Not only did the Cardinals win their game against Central by a score of 84-57, but Cooper entered the game 19 points short of a 1000 point basketball career, and ended with a game-high 22 points to put him over the 1000 point mark. For reaching this mark, the team presented him with a commemorative basketball signed by all the players to remember the evening by. Congratulations, Cooper, on the victory and on reaching the 1000 point milestone!

Brittney Byers Scores 1000th Point ANd is Big Cheese Athlete of the Week

Brittney ByersBrittney Byers, South Haven senior, scored the 1000th point of her high school basketball career on Monday, January 20, the the Cardinals blow-out win over CedarVale/Dexter. For this Brittney was named the Big Cheese Athlete of the Week for the week of January 20. For more about Brittney read the Sumner Newscow story. 

Cooper Wolf named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week

Cooper WolfCongratulations to Cooper Wolf, who was named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week for the week of January 7. Cooper had two great games against Attica and Cedarvale-Dexter that week. For his performance in these two games, Sumner Newscow named him Athlete of the week. The full story is found on the Sumner Newscow website. 

2007 Girls Basketball Team Honored

The 1997 Girls Basketball Team with their wall banner.

The 2007 South Haven girls basketball team holds several records. They are the only team to go undefeated and win state. Now, their accomplishment is recognized for all to see on the east wall of the north gym. At the alumni banquet on August 24, a sign was placed recognizing their accomplishment. Coach David Hughes spoke to the alumni crowd about the ladies and told stories of that remarkable season. Congratulations, Lady Cardinals, on this special recognition!

Student Physicals

All students in grades 6-12 who plan to participate in any sport or cheerleading must have their physical forms completed and signed by a healthcare provider with the credentials of MD, DO, DC, PA-C, or APRN AND a parent or guardian on or before the first day of practice in order to participate.  In addition to the physical form, students and parents must complete a KSHSAA Recommended Concussion & Head Injury Information Release Form.  Students may pick up these forms in the school office if they desire to use their personal family physician or clinic.  Copies or other forms will not be accepted.  These forms can also be found on the school website. Only approved forms will be accepted for participation.  Athletes must have a completed current physical on file with the athletic director before the athlete can practice in the sport of choice.

Eligibility Requirements for Sports

In addition to those scholastic requirements as set forth by the Kansas State High School Activities Association, any student of the South Haven School District involved in extracurricular activities must be passing in six subjects of unit weight on a week-to-week basis in order to be scholastically eligible to participate in that event. Eligibility for the week will be determined the previous Friday.

Student Insurance

All athletes 6-12 will be insured against accidents and injuries by a policy purchased by the Board of Education through Student Assurance Services of Stillwater, Minnesota.  This is a LIMITED POLICY WHICH COVERS A PORTION OF THE EXPENSE NOT COVERED BY THE FAMILY INSURANCE.  It is a responsibility of the student and/or parent to inform the office when they need to file a claim.  Claims MUST be made within 90 days.

The KSHSAA Catastrophic Insurance which covers major athletic injuries (7-12th grade) has also been purchased by the Board of Education.

Student Assurance Services also offer a voluntary policy for K-12 students.  Details of this policy will be sent home with students and information is available here.
