Congratulations to the October Students of the Month

Seth Brown is the South Haven High School student of the month for October. Seth is the son of Amy Brown and is a senior at SHHS. Seth is one of the hardest working students at the high school. Seth is the statistician for the football team and he takes care of all the video for the team. In addition to his class work, Seth helps out with things like setting up the football field for games and helping with jobs around the school. In his spare time Seth works and likes to ride four wheelers.

Britain Dark is the South Haven Junior High student of the month for October. Britain is the daughter of Eric and Shannon Dark and is an eighth grader at SHJHS. Britain is a leader in the classroom and on the volleyball court. Her class work is outstanding and she treats her fellow students with respect. In her spare time Britain likes play sports, paint rocks, play with her siblings and keep up with her school work.

Congratulations to our October South Haven Students of the Month!

The Cardinal Way

Over four years ago the high school staff developed the Cardinal Way, a set of behavior expectations for our students.  The Cardinal Way was founded around Character, Accountability, Rigor, Dedication and Spirit… CARDS! The Cardinal Way is now used preK-12.

This year the staff have relooked at the Cardinal Way and have updated the expectation matrix (see website).  We also looked at how we can reward the many students we have that follow the Cardinal Way every day and truly represent our school and community in a positive way.

What is the Rewards system?  Students will receive tickets when they are observed to follow or go above and beyond the expectations stated in the Cardinal Way expectation matrix.  Students will be able to exchange these tickets for small prizes each week.  The students came up with many of the ideas for the prizes (including, but not limited to, pencils, homework pass, get to the front of the lunch line, movie ticket, basketball time, free entry to school event, and comfy cushion to use in class).  We are establishing a Cardinal Way shop where items ‘for sale’ will have different ticket values. Students may choose to save their tickets and enter into a drawing at the end of each month for a basket of goodies or a gift card.

In addition to tickets, staff will have postcards that they can complete and mail or send home with students to share with you the positive behaviors your student is showing in school.

How can you help?  Talk to your students about their behaviors in school, and the importance of appropriate behaviors.  Volunteer to help with our Cardinal Way shop on a Friday.  Help us with reward items to ‘sell’ in the shop.  If you see a student showing these behavior characteristics, or going above and beyond please let Mr Pittman know so we can give you a ticket or postcard to present to that student.

Just a reminder...

Students may bring an empty bottle, empty tumbler, or empty travel mug to school, then fill the bottle, tumbler or mug AFTER arriving at school.  Drinks opened before entering the building are not allowed in school.

Materials for class.

I have had several questions about which materials are required for JH/HS classes.   The following is a list of required items:

Text book
AR book
Calculator (math classes)
Paper or Notebook
Pencil or Pen
Technology (chromebook/laptop/ipad or equivalent)
Eraser (art class)
Students should have these items in class in order not to be counted as "Tardy - missing materials".   Teachers will address missing homework and / or assignments directly with the student as per their classroom policies.
