Update from Dorsey Burgess, Superintendent March 20, 2020
Posted 3/20/20

Cardinal Students and Parents:

First, I want you to know that we recognize the challenges everyone is going through since the Governor’s Tuesday announcement of the closure of all Kansas Schools. Your lives have been turned upside down with anxiety and have more questions than anyone would ever imagine.

You may have heard on the news that schools are working on a Continuous Learning Plan (CLP) to keep students engaged as we work through these challenging times. That is absolutely correct.

The South Haven School Leadership Team met today, Friday, March 20th, and began work on developing the South Haven CLP. Next week all South Haven teachers will meet at the school in small team (10 or less) and will continue the work started today. They will be actively participating in five days of Professional Learning, preparing, planning and training in preparation for your student’s final two months of school.

The South Haven CLP will be centered on “virtual learning”. In moving to this learning model (or any model different from the regular face-to-face), we must all recognize that it won’t replace the face-to-face model, nor could it. Instead, our goal, along with every other school in the state, is to create a variety of learning opportunities for your students based on identified critical learning concepts and standards that will help “bridge” the gap from their last day of school prior to Spring Break, to the beginning of school next fall.

The new South Haven CLP will begin on Monday, March 30th, 2020. We will send out more information next week as it becomes available.

Students enrolled in Cowley County need to contact their instructors on how to proceed forward.

Many of you have questions on how to retrieve your students’ personal items. We are developing a pickup schedule and should have it available by early next week. The pick-up days have been scheduled for Thursday, March 26th and Friday, March 27th... times will be shared next week.

Finally, I will be hosting a Zoom Virtual Information - Q & A session at 7 PM on Monday, March 23. We will be sending out the link for the meeting on Monday. When you click the link, you will be required to download the zoom app. After downloading, you will launch the app, type your name, and then join the meeting.

I look forward to seeing everyone (virtually) on Monday evening.
