Let's get e-reading!

We have been able to access thousands of popular and award winning eBooks for free!  The free app allows kids of all ages and their caregivers to instantly download up to 10 eBooks at a time to their mobile digital devices. Each eBook will be available for 56 days before it must be renewed. Students and their families can choose eBooks based on the topics that get them excited about reading and learning, and search for eBooks by title or author.

Details about how to use the Open eBooks app were sent home with your child this week.  All SH students are eligible for access to these eBooks.  The Open eBooks app works on both Android and Apple platforms. Each child needs a code to use the app, which was on the letter sent home. If you cannot find the letter or the code, please contact the school office.

I would like to send off everything I can at the end of the year so that it does not have to be cleaned around over the summer.  So if you have any of the following, I would be happy to take them off your hands (and then you can start saving again for the fall):

  • Boxtops
  • Best Choice UPC codes
  • Receipts from any grocery store that sells Best Choice items (it doesn't matter what was purchased there)
  • Tyson labels
  • Used printer cartridges, phones, and other electronics
  • Campbell's labels (only the ones that have points attached to them....I need the 1- or 5-point part)

Thanks for your support!  (melindabyers@usd509.org if you have questions)

If your senior is planning on attending postsecondary school after graduating from high school, you should be looking at filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) together. You provide information about your family and finances to find out if you're eligible for financial aid for college. This year the window to fill out the application opens on October 1. College is expensive. Most students need some kind of financial aid. It's required for any kind of federal financial aid and many types of state, institutional, or private scholarships. All high school seniors should apply.  It's a first step, not a commitment. Filling out the FAFSA doesn't mean you're required to enroll or pay for college. For more information, click on the attached links.

Students can login to Career Cruising at home using the link on the front page of the website or on their school webpage. Parent accounts are available if you are interested please contact Mrs Archer or Missy Russell. This summer upgrades have been made to the safety and security of the school. If visitors or parents come to the school during the school day, they will need to enter the school at the main entrance on the south side. They will push the bell button on the keypad at the right side of the entrance and after identifying themselves will be buzzed into the school. Visitors should use the RIGHT set of doors and not the left. This is a change from what we are all used to. We ask for patience as we all get used to the new system.
