I welcome the chance to act as a guide to into the world of music. Making and studying music has helped me gain personal discipline, study skills and thousands of hours of personal enjoyment.

I hold degrees from Roosevelt University (Bachelors of Music and Master of Music) in Chicago and the University of Illinois Champaign –Urbana (Doctorate of Music Arts). Prior to accepting the position as the South Haven instrumental music teacher I  taught at Friends University, Wichita State University, University of Nebraska at Kearney, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Blackburn College, Prairie State College and the Stella Musical Academy in Hamburg Germany.

Not new to public school music education I have headed the Opera Outreach program for Opera Kansas for the last three years. We performed over 120 performances of multi-curricular outreach programs of my design. Each presented opera through works that incorporates history, science and social studies.

I have sung at home here in the states, Germany, France, Scotland, Wales, England, The Czech Republic, Austria, Spain, Egypt, Italy, Denmark, and Belgium.  My professional performance career includes over 40 different operas and two years performing Piangi in the “Phantom of the Opera” when I was young I studied Violin, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Trombone, Percussion, Piano and Organ. For a short time, I played in a rock band where I learned to play the guitar. In addition to teaching voice, I teach private on Clarinet and saxophone.

It is my belief that there is no better way to learn the important life skills of personal discipline, collaboration, dedication, but most importantly a way to enjoying learning the process of learning, than the study of music.

During class time we will regularly break into smaller groups or sections. As I work with one group the others will practice together. The students will document  each of these sessions on a google drive practice log. It is 10 % of their grade. In addition to this targeted practice I encourage each student to spend time at home practicing their instrument. All of these practice sessions should be documented. The length of time is not as important  as what was practiced and what was accomplished.
