Today's Softball game at West Elk has been cancelled due to weather. Today's track meet at Norwich has been cancelled and moved to May 1, 2017. Today's Softball game has been moved to April 27th.

Master It! is an exciting five-day residential summer program for girls just completing 7th and 8th grade. It is held at Emporia State University June 5-9, 2017, and is open to all girls regardless of their math or science background or achievement. The participants will be working with ESU professors and women professionals from industry. They will have fun with math and science, explore careers, and network with other participants. Cost for the camp is $250, and several needs-based scholarships are available. For more information, a brochure about the camp is attached.
If your student is absent from school for any reason, a phone call or note from a parent or guardian is required for the absence to be an excused absence. If your student needs to leave school early and will be driving themselves OR be picked up by someone other than a parent or guardian, you will need to call the school in advance for the student to leave early with that person.

School will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will dismiss at 3:40 p.m. each day. Parents...please DO NOT send your children to school before 7:45 a.m. Students will not be supervised except from 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. when teachers will be on duty.

Contribute your photos to the Year book via Replayit.com
We know there are lots of photographers out in the community who snap great shots of our kids in action. With Replayit.com you can upload photos and videos that Jostens team will screen for appropriateness and then the Year book team will be able to access them and decide if to include them in the printed publication.

To sign up for Parents Online, please call Joy in the High School Office at 620-892-5215 X2. Parents Online and Students Online is a web tool designed for parents and students to access student information online. Information included is: Attendance, Behavior, Calendar, Fees, Grade Card, Immunizations, Personal, Progress Reports, Schedule, Transcript, and Community Service.

Burgess Selected as Next USD 509 Superintendent
At the regular April Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, April 12, the Board of Education unanimously selected Dorsey Burgess as the new USD 509 Superintendent/ Pre-K - 5 Principal. Mr. Burgess is currently serving as the Principal of Benton Elementary School in the Circle School District. He has been in this position since 2002. Previously, Mr. Burgess was Assistant Principal, St. Francis of Assisi School for two years.
Mr. Burgess grew up in Haysville, KS, went to Bishop Carroll High School and then Wichita State University where he received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. From 1982 – 1983, Mr. Burgess traveled with an international group called “Up With People.” He and his wife, Debra, reside in Wichita. Mrs. Burgess is currently a para with the Wichita School District. Mr. Burgess also directs the choir at his church, plays guitar, water skis, camps, and loves bluegrass, classic rock, and jazz.
Mr. Burgess is looking forward to assuming his duties on July 1, 2017. He is planning on being in the district as his time and position allows before that time. Welcome to USD 509, Mr. Burgess!

South Haven USD 509 is partnering with Sumner County Mental Health Services to provide mental health services onsite to eligible children through a System of Care grant. This collaboration allows students, teachers, and families to work together in both the classroom and the community. It also provides convenient access for students and their families who otherwise might not seek treatment. For more information about about the services, go to the "From Mrs. Stroman" page under the District tab of the website.
