Wild West Book Fair logo
Saddle up and ride on over to the Wild West Book Fair to be held at South Haven School from September 27 to October 3. Times are: 

Wednesday, September 27th – 7:45 am to 4:00 pm

Thursday, September 28th – 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

    Parent/Teacher Conf. - Ice Cream and Cookies served

Saturday, September 30th - 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

     South Haven Volleyball Tournament

Monday, October 2nd – 7:45 am to 4:00 pm

Tuesday, October 3rd – 7:30 am to 6:00 pm

Books make great Christmas gifts, so hope you will round up some for your students. The school also earns credits toward books for our library with every purchase.


Attendance Policy

If your student is absent from school for any reason, a phone call or note from a parent or guardian is required for the absence to be an excused absence.  If your student needs to leave school early and will be driving themselves OR be picked up by someone other than a parent or guardian, you will need to call the school in advance for the student to leave early with that person.

School Hours

School will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will dismiss at 3:40 p.m. each day.  Parents...please DO NOT send your children to school before 7:45 a.m.  Students will not be supervised except from 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. when teachers will be on duty.

We know there are lots of photographers out in the community who snap great shots of our kids in action. With Replayit.com you can upload photos and videos that Jostens team will screen for appropriateness and then the Year book team will be able to access them and decide if to include them in the printed publication.

To sign up for Parents Online, please call Joy in the High School Office at 620-892-5215 X2.  Parents Online and Students Online is a web tool designed for parents and students to access student information online.  Information included is:  Attendance, Behavior, Calendar, Fees, Grade Card, Immunizations, Personal, Progress Reports, Schedule, Transcript, and Community Service.

The Kansas Book Festival Foundation sponsors a writing contest for grades 3-12 each year since 2013. The 2017 Theme was “Kansas Places”: Describe a place that is unique to Kansas and explain its importance to the state of Kansas. A place could be a city, town, county, lake, river area, region (i.e., Flint Hills, northeast Kansas) or a building. Descriptions should include historical and/or present-day elements of the place.Winners were picked from each congressional district in Kansas in grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. These essays were written in the spring of 2017.


Fourth Congressional District 6th-8th grade winners were both from South Haven:

First place:  Josiah Bright, writing about the Cawker City Ball of Twine

Second place:  Kyla Baker, writing about home.


Josiah and Kyla were awarded cash prizes for their first and second place essays on September 9 in Topeka at the state capitol in the Senate Chamber. Congratulations Josiah and Kyla!

August and September Students of the Month

For August in High School, Tiffany Liersemann has been nominated by Mrs. Byers and Kendall Ray has been nominated by Mr. Leach for September as both have “stepped up to get the year started.”


In Junior High, Adriana Hoplin has been nominated for August and Elizabeth Giger has been nominated for September as both have shown “excellent work ethic” from the very start.

Homecoming Candidates Announced

October 6 is Homecoming. The Cardinals will play Burrton. And the homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime. Candidates are: 

Seniors - Joe Cooke and Megan Giger

Juniors - Colby Theurer and Brionna Byers

Sophomores - Dylan Kane and Rachel Turek

Freshmen - Cooper Wolf and Sydney Bacon

First grade attendants will be Landon Goeckel, son of Jeremy and Abigail Goekel, and Carlee Heater, daughter of Mike and Rheann Heater.
